Gaia breathes a sigh of relief.
With the Coronavirus making its way through the human population, it leaves in its wake great changes - schools have closed, places of business have shut down, and meetings and workshops and gatherings of all kinds have been cancelled. People have greatly reduced their air travel. Fossil fuel driven transportation of all kinds have diminished. With these changes pollutant emissions have been reduced. What a relief for the planet. It is perhaps wonderful that things have slowed so much. The earth is finally getting a break.
People too are getting a break from our frenetic moving about. The prescription is to stay at home, avoid crowds, and avoid going out. What a great time to focus a little more on a simpler life and one that is centered more toward home. Perhaps people will take up some simple hand crafts, and better yet add to that putting some seeds or plants in the ground to grow some of their own food..
For many of us in Big Sur, we are already used to prescriptive stays at home due to unpredictable natural forces. Most homesteads include edible landscapes providing inhabitants with some food sovereignty. Picking food from the garden lets me know no one with coronavirus has touched what I end up eating. Plus its fresher, tastes better and energetically has it happening not having to be picked, packed, perhaps irradiated, transported, unpacked, displayed, picked over, paid for, and carried home before it being used.
No time like the present to get some food growing!
